And Warn Your Nearest Kinsmen — The First Public Call

وَأَنذِرۡ عَشِيرَتَكَ ٱلۡأَقۡرَبِينَ
— الشعراء 214
Verse: "And warn your nearest kinsmen." (26:214)
Occasion (Agreed Upon): When the verse was revealed, the Prophet ﷺ climbed Safa and called each tribe by name until they gathered. He asked: "If I told you horses were coming from behind this mountain, would you believe me?" They said yes. He said: "Then I am a warner to you before a severe punishment." Abu Lahab said: "Destruction to you!" — then Surah Al-Masad was revealed.
Lesson: Sincere calling doesn't differentiate between near and far in responsibility — but starts with the nearest.
