وَقُولُواْ لَهُمۡ قَوۡلٗا مَّعۡرُوفٗا
— النساء 8
Verse: "When the relatives, orphans, and poor are present at the distribution, give them something from it and speak to them with kind words." (4:8)
Occasion: The poor, orphans, and non-heir relatives were present at inheritance distribution in Medina. The command came to honor and give what is possible — not a specific obligation but nobility and humanity.
"Kind words": Good speech with giving — not only money but giving it with dignity and without condescension.
Lesson: Inheritance is a legal procedure but humanity makes it an honoring event — giving "with tongue" alongside giving with money.

Question: What does "kind words" add to material giving in the inheritance verse?
Answer: Transforms giving from a cold procedure to human honoring — money alone can humiliate if accompanied by condescension; kind words complete the giving and magnify its impact.
