رَبَّنَا ٱغۡفِرۡ لَنَا وَلِإِخۡوَٰنِنَا ٱلَّذِينَ سَبَقُونَا بِٱلۡإِيمَٰنِ
— الحشر 10
Verse: "And those who came after them say: Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith." (59:10)
Context: After mentioning the Muhajirun and Ansar — the verse described "those who came after them" as Followers in excellence. Together: Muhajirun + Ansar + Followers in excellence = one ummah across generations.
The Quran's etiquette toward Companions: The verse teaches our generations that the correct stance toward the Companions is praying for them and having mercy on them, not delving into their differences.
Lesson: This verse is the standard for the correct relationship with the Prophet's Companions ﷺ — prayer and love, not criticism and debate.

Question: What is the correct stance toward the Companions taught by this verse?
Answer: Praying for them, having mercy on them, and not holding rancor — "Do not put in our hearts rancor toward those who believed" — not engaging in debates about their disputes.
