وَٱلَّذِي جَآءَ بِٱلصِّدۡقِ وَصَدَّقَ بِهِۦٓ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُتَّقُونَ
— الزمر 33
Verse: "And the one who brought the truth and those who believed it — they are the God-fearing." (39:33)
Occasion: Al-Hakim (2/430) and Al-Tabari narrated from Abu Hurairah and many commentators: "The one who brought the truth" is the Prophet ﷺ, and "the one who believed it" is Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq — for he was the first man to believe the mission fully without hesitation.
Reliability: Hasan — Al-Hakim and Al-Tabari and a group of scholars
Lesson: The rank of the believer equals the rank of the truth-bringer — the Quran joined them in a single verse. Complete belief without hesitation is the basis of Quranic honor.
Source: Al-Mustadrak by Al-Hakim (2/430); Al-Tabari (24/14); Ibn Kathir (7/84)
Question: Who is "the one who brought the truth" and who is "the one who believed it" according to most scholars?
Answer: "The one who brought the truth": the Prophet ﷺ; "the one who believed it": Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq — the first man to believe the mission.
