حُرِّمَتۡ عَلَيۡكُمُ ٱلۡمَيۡتَةُ وَٱلدَّمُ وَلَحۡمُ ٱلۡخِنزِيرِ
— المائدة 3
Verse: "Prohibited to you are carrion, blood, swine flesh, and what is dedicated to other than Allah." (5:3)
Four original prohibitions: Carrion (died without slaughter), flowing blood, swine flesh, what is dedicated to other than Allah.
Carrion exceptions: "Whoever is forced without desiring or transgressing" — the compelled person may eat carrion to prevent death. Fish and locusts: "Sea game is permitted for you."
General principle: "Say: I find not in what is revealed to me anything forbidden" — the default for food is permissibility.
