Dealing With Relapse — When You Forget

hifz Level: intermediate motivation hfz-015
إِنَّا نَحۡنُ نَزَّلۡنَا ٱلذِّكۡرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَٰفِظُونَ
— الحجر 9
Natural truth: Every memorizer forgets — even Jibril reminded the Prophet of some verses. Forgetting is not failure but a review launch point.

When is forgetting "serious"? Scholars: What is disliked is forgetting while capable of continuing — the Prophet criticized total abandonment: "How bad for one to say 'I forgot such-and-such verse.'"

Retrieval steps: (1) Don't panic — initial memorization never fully disappears, it "hides." (2) Count to ten and reflect on the preceding verse's context. (3) Return to listening then re-memorize. (4) Double repetition of weak sections going forward.
