Ibrahim Sees How Allah Revives the Dead — Certain Knowledge

Verse: "When Ibrahim said: 'My Lord, show me how You give life to the dead.' He said: 'Do you not believe?' He said: 'Yes! But so my heart may be reassured.'" (2:260)

Was Ibrahim's request born of doubt?
The majority say no — he sought to move from theoretical certain knowledge ('ilm al-yaqeen) to observational certain knowledge ('ayn al-yaqeen). Believing in resurrection is correct, but seeing its mechanism adds deeper tranquility.

The experiment:
He was commanded to take four birds, cut them, and distribute them on mountains, then call them — and they returned to life. The direct visual image establishes in the heart what verbal information previously established.

Lesson in types of certainty:
'Ilm al-yaqeen: you know by proof that fire burns. 'Ayn al-yaqeen: you saw fire. Haqq al-yaqeen: you touched it. Ibrahim sought to move from the first to the second.
