Solomon and the Hoopoe — A Lesson in Verifying Before Judging

Verse: "He said: We shall see whether you told the truth or are among the liars." (27:27)

Context: Solomon ﷺ counted birds and missed the hoopoe. He said: "I will surely punish him severely or slaughter him unless he brings me a clear authorization." Then the hoopoe arrived with news of the Queen of Sheba.

Verification before judgment:
Despite his anger, he did not execute punishment immediately — he said "We shall see." A prophet-king pauses before a bird's news to verify. This is the method of "If a wicked person brings news, verify."

Letter strategy:
He sent a letter to Bilqis before sending the army — "Do not be superior to me but come to me in submission." He used power as a last resort after calling and arguing.

Lesson: Wise leadership does not rush to judgment even regarding the smallest subordinate — and uses the least forceful means before the most powerful.
