Idris in the Quran — We Raised Him to a High Place

stories Level: basic other-prophets st-030
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ صِدِّيقٗا نَّبِيًّا وَرَفَعۡنَٰهُ مَكَانًا عَلِيًّا
— مريم 56
Verse: "And mention in the Book Idris — he was a man of truth and a prophet. And We raised him to a high place." (19:56-57)

Idris's status: Mentioned in the Quran twice — both times in contexts of praise and elevation. Seen by the Prophet ﷺ on the night journey, in the fourth heaven.

"Truthful" (siddiq) before "prophet": Truthfulness in all circumstances prepared him for prophethood.

Lesson: Truthfulness is a quality that qualifies its possessor for high ranks — "indeed truthfulness leads to righteousness and righteousness leads to Paradise."
Source: Ibn Kathir (5/237); Al-Sadi; Al-Qurtubi (11/114)
Question: What two descriptions did the Quran give for Idris?
Answer: Siddiq (truthful) — greatly truthful and believing. Prophet — divinely revealed to. The elevation "to a high place" came as a result of these two qualities.
