Dhul-Qarnayn — The Great Barrier and Gog and Magog

st-036
Quranic context: Al-Kahf, verses 83-101
Context: A king whom Allah granted the means and subjected the paths — he reached the setting and rising of the sun, then arrived between two mountains. A weak people asked him to build a barrier to stop Gog and Magog from corrupting the earth. He built it from iron blocks and molten copper.
Character of the believing king:
When offered tribute he refused: "What my Lord has established for me is better — help me with strength, and I will make a barrier between you and them." When he completed it he said: "This is a mercy from my Lord — when my Lord's promise comes, He will make it level, and my Lord's promise is true."
Attributing merit:
He did not say "I built" — he attributed the construction to Allah's mercy. This is the quality of the believing king: he sees himself as an instrument in Allah's hand, not an independent master of power.
Lesson: Power, kingdom, and means are not for boasting — but for service. Whoever is given power and uses it to protect the weak has expressed the highest gratitude for the blessing.

Question: How did Dhul-Qarnayn respond to the offer of tribute, and then to the completion of the barrier?
Answer: He refused the tribute because what Allah gave him was better, and when the barrier was complete he attributed it to Allah's mercy, not himself.
