Al-Khidr Rebuilds the Wall — The Third Reason from Moses Journey

Quranic context: The third event in Moses journey with Al-Khidr (peace be upon them) — rebuilding a wall in a stingy town that refused to host them without any payment.

Context:
  • They came to a town seeking food but the people refused to host them — then Al-Khidr found a wall about to collapse and rebuilt it
  • Moses said: "If you wished you could have taken for it a payment." (Al-Kahf 77)
  • Al-Khidr explained: "And underneath it was a treasure for two orphan boys, and their father had been righteous, so your Lord intended that they reach maturity and extract their treasure as a mercy from your Lord." (Al-Kahf 82)
  • Allah preserved the treasure of the orphans because of the righteousness of their father — righteous deeds extend their effect to descendants
Lesson:
Righteous parents continue to benefit their children beyond their own lifetimes — Allah protects the children of the righteous in ways they cannot see. The greatest thing a person does for future generations is to reform their own character.
Source: Ibn Kathir (5/181); Al-Tabari (15/354); Al-Qurtubi (11/34)
Question: What does the rebuilt wall in the story of Al-Khidr teach about the connection between a parent righteousness and the protection of their children?
Answer: Allah preserved the orphans treasure because their father was righteous — righteousness outlasts a person life and continues protecting their descendants without their knowledge and without the parents themselves knowing it.
