Guide Us to the Straight Path — Why Does a Believer Ask for Guidance Already Having It?

Verse: "Guide us to the straight path"

Reflection:
A question many ask: A Muslim is already guided — so why ask for guidance in every prayer cycle? Scholars offer beautiful answers:

First — Guidance has degrees: Being guided to Islam is not the final destination. Guidance to the straight path encompasses:

• Steadfastness against doubts and desires
• Divine guidance in every decision and step in life
• Detailed guidance in the rulings and subtleties of Sharia
• Walking toward Allah through purification of the soul

Second — The perpetual need: Ibn Al-Qayyim said: "The heart on its path to Allah is like a traveler — it needs guidance and support every moment, or it veers right or left."

Third — Plural "guide us": Not "guide me" alone — teaching care for others' guidance and praying for them alongside yourself.

Lesson: Never assume you have arrived — guidance is a journey, not a destination.
