حَسۡبُنَا ٱللَّهُ وَنِعۡمَ ٱلۡوَكِيلُ
— آل عمران 173
Verse: "Those to whom people said: 'People have gathered against you, so fear them.' But it increased them in faith, and they said: 'Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs.'" (3:173)
Al-Bukhari narrated: "Ibrahim said it when thrown into the fire; Muhammad ﷺ said it when told people had gathered against him" — the two greatest moments in history where a servant said these words in the face of destruction.
Meaning of "Hasbunallah":
Hasb = sufficient. "Allah suffices us." Not surrender but absolute trust that He who controls everything will not abandon those who rely on Him.
Meaning of "Ni'mal Wakeel":
Al-Wakeel: one entrusted with an affair, confident in his management. Allah is the best disposer because He knows the benefit, is able to achieve it, and is merciful to those who entrust Him.
Lesson: When you say it in your darkest moment — you walk in the footsteps of Ibrahim and Muhammad ﷺ. Both times it was followed by relief.
