Tell Believing Men to Lower Their Gaze — Degrees and Wisdom of Guarding the Eyes

Verse: "Tell believing men to lower [some of] their gaze and guard their private parts — that is purer for them." (24:30)

"Min absarihim" (some of their gaze) not all of it:
"Min" here is partitive — lower some of your gaze, not all of it. The verse does not command eyes to be closed to life, but to cut the harmful gaze (toward the forbidden) while continuing permissible looking.

Logical sequence: Lowering gaze → guarding private parts. The eye is the seed — control the seed and you control the harvest. The Prophet ﷺ said: "The eyes commit fornication and their fornication is the look."

"That is purer for them":
Tazkiyah: growth and purification. Guarding the gaze does not confine a person — it purifies the soul and frees it from the chains of desire. One who controls his gaze finds light and closeness to Allah in his heart.

Lesson: True guarding is not only of the eye — but of the heart that holds the image after the eye looks away.
