أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ
— النساء 82
Verse: "Will they not reflect on the Quran? If it had been from other than Allah, they would have found in it much contradiction." (4:82)
"Afala" (will they not):
An incredulous rhetorical question expressing rebuke and astonishment — as if the Quran says: "How do they not reflect? This is what every reader should be doing."
"Tadabbur":
From "dubur" (the back/following) — tadabbur is following the traces behind speech: meanings, wisdoms, and secrets beyond the words. Not fast reading to complete daily portions only — but pausing with meaning.
The proof is in the verse itself:
"If it were from other than Allah, they would have found much contradiction." The Quran was compiled over 23 years in vastly different circumstances — yet contains no contradiction. This alone is evidence that demands reflection for the attentive.
Closing lesson: Every tadabbur card you read is a response to this Quranic call: "Will they not reflect?" Reflecting on the Quran is not a luxury — it is the very purpose for which the Quran was revealed.
