ٱلۡيَوۡمَ أَكۡمَلۡتُ لَكُمۡ دِينَكُمۡ وَأَتۡمَمۡتُ عَلَيۡكُمۡ نِعۡمَتِي
— المائدة 3
Verse: "Today I have perfected your religion and completed My blessing upon you and have approved Islam as your religion." (5:3)
Day of revelation: Day of Arafat during the Farewell Pilgrimage — the noblest day in the noblest place. Umar said: "If this verse had been revealed to us we would have taken that day as an Eid."
"Perfected" and "completed": Perfecting the religion: no ruling left incomplete. Completing the blessing: blessing reached its peak with Islam. "Approved": Allah's eternal approval of Islam as religion — an unmatched honor.
Lesson: Whoever seeks a religion other than Islam seeks the incomplete after the complete.

Question: What is the difference between "I perfected the religion" and "I completed My blessing"?
Answer: Perfecting the religion: no ruling incomplete — the law is full. Completing the blessing: the blessing reached its peak with Islam — completeness of religion and completeness of blessing simultaneously.
