وَلَقَدۡ صَدَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَعۡدَهُۥٓ إِذۡ تَحُسُّونَهُم بِإِذۡنِهِۦ
— آل عمران 152
Verse: "When you left your family in the morning to assign believers battle positions..." (3:121)
Uhud — the greatest lesson in obedience: Muslims were winning, then the archers left their positions seeking spoils — and the battle turned. A lesson: disobeying the commander's order costs the entire army.
"You disobeyed after He showed you what you desired": Explicit — linking defeat to disobedience. Allah didn't hide the cause but stated it clearly.
Lesson: Obedience is a condition of victory. Uhud is the Quran's case study in what happens when discipline breaks down.

Question: What explicit cause does the Quran cite for the Muslims' defeat at Uhud?
Answer: Disobedience of the commander's order — the archers left their positions seeking spoils. "You disobeyed after He showed you what you desired" — disobedience is the explicit cause.
