This Worldly Life Is Nothing But Deceptive Enjoyment

tadabbur Level: basic dunya-akhirah td-208
وَمَا ٱلۡحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنۡيَآ إِلَّا مَتَٰعُ ٱلۡغُرُورِ
— آل عمران 185
Verse: "And this worldly life is nothing but the enjoyment of delusion." (3:185)

"Al-ghurur" (delusion): What deceives and misguides — the world presents itself as greater than it is. It adorns and entices then disappoints and ends.

Context: Follows "every soul will taste death" — as if the Quran says: now that you know death is real, know that what you cling to in this world is mere deceptive enjoyment.

The paradox: "Whoever is kept away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise — he has truly succeeded." True success is defined and clear. Not in worldly billions.

Question: What does "ghurur" (delusion) mean in "enjoyment of delusion"?
Answer: Ghurur: what deceives its owner and presents itself as greater than it is. The world creates the illusion of permanence and greatness then disappoints and ends.
