وَمَآ أَصَٰبَكُم مِّن مُّصِيبَةٍ فَبِمَا كَسَبَتۡ أَيۡدِيكُمۡ
— الشورى 30
Verse: "Whatever calamity befalls you is for what your hands earned — and He pardons much." (42:30) — A Quranic explanation of calamity's causes. He didn't say "for ALL you earned" but "for what you earned" — then added "He pardons much." Meaning: if Allah took you to account for all your sins, none would survive — but He pardons much. Educational dimension: when a calamity strikes — review yourself first, don't rush to blame others and fate. This doesn't mean every calamity is punishment — prophets were most severely tested and Allah loved them. Lesson: calamity is a mirror for the soul — there is no escape from it.

Question: How do you reconcile "whatever calamity befalls you is for what your hands earned" with prophets being most severely tested?
Answer: The verse describes the general rule not every case — some calamities are trials and elevation in rank, not punishment. Prophets' trials are elevations in rank.
