فَإِنَّ مَعَ ٱلۡعُسۡرِ يُسۡرٗا
— الانشراح 5
Verse: "With hardship comes ease — with hardship comes ease." (94:5-6) — "Hardship" is definite (al-usr) — one specific hardship. "Ease" is indefinite in both occurrences — a different ease each time. Scholars said: a single hardship cannot defeat two eases. The definite hardship means: the same crisis, nothing new. Ease each time is new and renewed. The Prophet's ﷺ fatwa: "A single hardship will not overcome two eases." Then: "When you finish, strive" — no time for idleness — when done with one work, move immediately to another. Idleness is the gate to evil. Lesson: every hardship you pass through is a gate to two reliefs.

Question: Why did scholars say "a single hardship will not defeat two eases" based on this verse?
Answer: Because "hardship" is definite = one, and "ease" came indefinite twice = two different ones — meaning: one hardship between two eases.
