Allah Al-Samad — The One Sought in Every Need

tadabbur Level: intermediate ikhlas td-303
ٱللَّهُ ٱلصَّمَدُ
— الإخلاص 2
Verse: "Allah, Al-Samad"

Reflection:
"Al-Samad" is among the most comprehensive of Allah's names and the most loaded with meaning. Ibn Abbas said: "Al-Samad: the master who is perfect in his lordship, the noble one perfect in his nobility, the great one perfect in his greatness, the forbearing one perfect in his forbearance, the knowing one perfect in his knowledge, the wise one perfect in his wisdom — and that is Allah alone."

The practical meaning of Al-Samad: Al-Samad is the one toward whom all creation "samd" — direct themselves and take refuge in every need. Meanwhile He needs no one.

How to live this name:
  • In every hardship: take refuge in Him alone — He is Al-Samad who never abandons those who come to Him
  • In every need: begin by asking Him before any created being — the created being needs like you, and Al-Samad needs no one
  • Every human you take refuge in can say "no" or be incapable — Al-Samad is never incapable
Lesson: "Al-Samad" treats unhealthy dependence on people — when you know that Allah is Al-Samad, you put every created being in its proper size and do not expect from it what it does not possess.
