Verse: "O believers, when the call for Friday prayer is made, hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave trade." (62:9) — "Leave trade" — an explicit command to abandon commerce when the call is made. Historical context: a caravan arrived in Madinah on a Friday and companions dispersed to see it — the verse came as a rebuke and guidance. "Hasten to the remembrance of Allah" — hasten with seriousness and attention. Not physical running — but heart-hastening in priority and concern. Then: "when the prayer is finished disperse in the earth and seek from Allah's bounty" — Islam didn't abolish commerce — it ordered it. Religion first then the world. Lesson: the Muslim who prioritizes their commerce over Friday prayer — is living the very experience mentioned in the verse.
