ٱسۡتَعِينُواْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ وَٱلصَّلَوٰةِ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ
— البقرة 153
Verse: "O you who believe — seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed Allah is with the patient." (2:153) — "Seek help" — requesting assistance. From whom? Not from people first, nor from material means first — but through "patience and prayer." These are the two sources of real strength in a crisis. Why patience and prayer together? Patience is inner strength: prevents collapse. Prayer is outward connection: opens the door of divine support. Together they form the complete fortress — stability from within and reinforcement from without. "Indeed Allah is with the patient" — the special companionship: not the general companionship of observation but the companionship of victory and support. The one who is patient is not left to themselves — Allah is with them. Lesson: the Prophet ﷺ used to resort to prayer when something distressed him. This verse explains why.

Question: What is the difference between Allah's special companionship in this verse and His general presence with all creation?
Answer: General presence: Allah's knowledge and encompassing of all things. The special companionship here: victory, support, and aid — Allah aids the patient and keeps them firm.
