Thinning and Emphasis in the Word "Allah" — Condition for Thinning

tajweed Level: basic tafkhim tj-049
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
— الفاتحة 1
Definition:
The word "Allah" has two forms: emphasis (Tafkhim/Takhleez) or thinning (Tarqeeq), determined by the vowel that precedes it.

Rule:
• Tafkhim (heavy): When "Allah" is preceded by a Fatha or Dhamma: "Qaala Allah", "Rasool Allah" — Lam is heavy
• Tarqeeq (thin): When "Allah" is preceded by a Kasra: "Bismillah", "Lillah", "Minallah" — Lam is thin

Quranic Example:
Tafkhim: "Say: O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty" [Aal Imran: 26] — Dhamma before "Allah" → heavy.
Tarqeeq: "In the name of Allah" — Kasra before "Allah" → thin.

Note:
The relevant Kasra is the one immediately before the word "Allah" on the last letter of the preceding word, whether it is an original Kasra or the Kasra of a connecting Hamza.

Question: In "Wattaqu Allah" [Al-Baqarah: 278] — is the Lam heavy or thin? Why?
Answer: Heavy (Tafkhim), because the letter before "Allah" carries a Dhamma (the Waw of the plural "taqaw")
