"O Believers Do Not Raise Your Voices Above the Prophet's" — Etiquette of the Prophetic Companionship

لَا تَرۡفَعُوٓاْ أَصۡوَٰتَكُمۡ فَوۡقَ صَوۡتِ ٱلنَّبِيِّ
— الحجرات الآية 2
Verse: "O believers, do not raise your voices above the Prophet's voice." (49:2)

Occasion (Sahih): Bukhari narrated from Ibn Abi Mulaikah: when Abu Bakr and Umar raised voices in the Banu Tamim incident "do not put yourselves before" was revealed, then this verse. After this Umar would only speak to the Prophet in a whisper-like tone. Thabit ibn Qais said: "I am the one who raises his voice — my deeds are gone, I'm from the people of Fire!" A verse was then revealed that he hadn't intended harm.
