"Those Who Die Leaving Wives" — The Ruling on Widows' Waiting Period

يَتَرَبَّصۡنَ بِأَنفُسِهِنَّ أَرۡبَعَةَ أَشۡهُرٍ وَعَشۡرٗا
— البقرة الآية 234
Verse: "Those of you who die leaving wives behind — they shall wait four months and ten days." (2:234)

Occasion (Hasan): Abu Dawud narrated from Al-Miswar ibn Makhrama: revealed about Furai'a bint Malik — her husband died and she wanted to move to her family. She asked the Prophet ﷺ who permitted her, then caught up and said: "Observe your waiting period where death found you." She waited in her marital home four months and ten days.
