2. Learn difficult vocabulary — ask your sheikh or consult a dictionary
3. Link the verse to its surah context: "this verse completes the idea of..."

Quranic evidence: "Do they not reflect on the Quran or are there locks on their hearts?" (47:24) — reflection is a condition of alertness and among the strongest aids to memorization.
