Reciting to Others — The Partner's Impact on Memorization

وَذَكِّرۡ فَإِنَّ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ تَنفَعُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ
— الذاريات الآية 55
Difference between tasmi' and isma':
Tasmi': you recite to a sheikh or peer — who corrects your errors.
Isma' (teaching others): you recite so others hear — more stabilizing because "whoever teaches, learns."

Why does reciting to others stabilize memorization?
  • Reveals hidden gaps — what you think is memorized may falter in recitation
  • Mild psychological pressure activates concentration and retrieval
  • Immediate feedback corrects errors before they solidify
Recitation etiquette: (1) Define a clear passage before sitting for recitation. (2) Ask the listener to correct any error immediately. (3) After recitation: note stumbling points and prioritize them.
