Completing and Restarting the Quran — Maintaining the Annual Khatma
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَتۡلُونَ كِتَٰبَ ٱللَّهِ وَأَقَامُواْ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
— فاطر الآية 29
The annual khatma is the Salaf's practice: The Prophet ﷺ would have the Quran reviewed with him each Ramadan — and reviewed it twice in the last Ramadan of his life. The Salaf would complete one, two, or more khatmas per year.
"Restarting the khatma" concept: Completing is not an ending — but a new beginning. "Whoever completes the Quran initiates the completion with an answered supplication." — Authentic Salaf narration.

Maintaining an annual khatma:
- Calculate your required daily portion: 30 juz ÷ 365 days = one quarter hizb daily (4-5 pages)
- Let the khatma take priority over new memorization in Ramadan — Ramadan for review and completion, other months for memorization
- Record each khatma's date — tracking motivates
- At completion: gather loved ones and supplicate — "Angels attend the Quran khatma"
