The Chain of Readings — The Golden Chain to the Prophet ﷺ

إِنَّا نَحۡنُ نَزَّلۡنَا ٱلذِّكۡرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَٰفِظُونَ
— الحجر الآية 9
Importance of chain in readings:
A reading without a chain is like a hadith without a chain — unacceptable. Ibn Mujahid: "No one authorizes a reading except with correct chains and reliable transmitters."

Example chain for Hafs narration:
Muhammad ﷺ → Uthman ibn Affan + Ali + others → Asim ibn Abi Al-Najud (d. 127H) → Hafs ibn Sulayman (d. 180H) → received by the community generation after generation.

Continuous to today:
Every Quran reader in the Islamic world possesses a chain connecting him to the Prophet ﷺ — a unique feature of this community found in no other book.

The "ijaza": A memorizer who completes recitation before a sheikh receives a chained authorization — "This chain is a crown on the head of the authorized."
