Stopping and Starting — The Importance of Correct Stopping
لَا تَقۡرَبُواْ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأَنتُمۡ سُكَٰرَىٰ
— النساء الآية 43
Types of stopping:
- Al-waqf al-tam: meaning complete, sentence fully ended — good to stop and restart.
- Al-waqf al-kafi: meaning complete with some connection — permissible to stop.
- Al-waqf al-hasan: part of meaning complete — permissible to stop but don't restart from here.
- Al-waqf al-qabih: disrupts meaning or implies corrupt meaning — impermissible except out of necessity.
