Al-Imala Al-Kubra — What Is Exclusive to Al-Kisa'i and Hamza

وَإِذۡ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوۡمِهِۦ
— البقرة الآية 54
Al-imala al-kubra (full/major imala):
A clear, complete lean of the fatha toward kasra and the alif toward ya' — until the alif sounds nearly like ya'. The strongest type of imala.

Who uses it extensively:
  • Al-Kisa'i: Inclines many alifs throughout the Quran — including "Musa," "Isa," "Yahya," and ending alifs in many surahs.
  • Hamza: Inclines with Al-Kisa'i and adds more positions.
Exclusive positions:
  1. Maqsura alifs: "huda / da'a / ata / duha" — Al-Kisa'i and Hamza incline.
  2. Fasila alifs: at verse endings — some readers incline in "ma'ab / hisab."
  3. "Anna": Al-Kisa'i inclines "anna" in some positions unlike others of the seven.
Linguistic benefit: Imala reveals the word's root — the alif in "huda" is originally ya' (hadaya) → imala points to this root.
