Surah: Al-Baqarah (127)
Building the Kaabah with Ismail — The Father's Supplication
رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلۡ مِنَّآ ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ
— البقرة الآية 127
Verse: "And when Ibrahim raised the foundations of the House with Ismail: 'Our Lord, accept from us...'" (2:127)
The scene: A father and son laying the stones of the Sacred House — at the peak of worship — yet they supplicate: "Our Lord, accept from us." Not "You have accepted" — but requesting acceptance at the very moment of action.
Lesson in fear within worship:
Al-Sadi: "The believer fears non-acceptance in his heart even during his righteous deeds — because acceptance is a divine gift, not an automatic entitlement." The early Muslims would weep after worship fearing its rejection more than before neglecting it.
Ibrahim's supplication for his descendants:
"Make us submissive to You, and from our descendants a submissive nation, and show us our rites, and turn to us in repentance" — four requests in one prayer. Allah answered with the mission of the Prophet ﷺ from their lineage.
