Surah: Al-Kahf (66)
Musa and Al-Khidr — The Journey of Knowledge and Patience in Learning
Quranic context: Al-Kahf, verses 60-82
Context: Musa was told that at the junction of the two seas was a righteous servant with knowledge Musa did not possess. He set out seeking knowledge and found him. Al-Khidr stipulated patience and no questioning until he himself explained.
The three events:
1. Damaging the ship: appeared to destroy a poor people's vessel — was rescue from a king seizing every sound ship.
2. Killing the boy: appeared a crime without cause — was protection of pious parents from a child who would have oppressed them in disbelief.
3. Rebuilding the wall: appeared unpaid labor — was preservation of orphans' buried treasure until they came of age.
The essential lesson:
"I did not do it of my own accord" — Al-Khidr clarified he acted by divine command, not personal judgment. Teaching us: true knowledge must be paired with patience and humility.
Lesson: Events in your life whose wisdom you cannot see now — perhaps you will understand years later. Contentment with Allah's decree is the foundation of inner peace.
