Surah: Al-Baqarah (31)
And He Taught Adam the Names — The Miracle of the Human Mind
وَعَلَّمَ ءَادَمَ ٱلۡأَسۡمَآءَ كُلَّهَا
— البقرة الآية 31
Verse: "And He taught Adam the names — all of them — then displayed them to the angels." (2:31)
Reflection: The angels are more knowledgeable about Allah — but Adam is more knowledgeable about creation and names. Allah's teaching of Adam revealed the wisdom of vicegerency: humans have the capacity for classification, naming, understanding, and interacting with the universe — what makes man a vicegerent, not the angels.
Lesson: The human mind is a divine vicegerency — whoever wastes it in heedlessness and ignorance has wasted a divine gift.
