Surah: An-Nur (35)
Allah Is the Light of the Heavens and the Earth — His Light Like a Niche Containing a Lamp
ٱللَّهُ نُورُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ
— النور الآية 35
Verse: "Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth — His light is like a niche in which is a lamp." (24:35) — Ibn Abbas said: "Allah is the Guide of heavens and earth." This light is the light of guidance, knowledge, and faith. Then Allah gives a parable: the niche — the lamp — the glass (amplifying light) — the blessed olive tree — oil that almost glows of itself. Each layer increases and purifies the light. Meaning: Allah's light in the believer's heart almost shines of itself — it is light upon light. Lesson: the heart carrying Allah's light is not extinguished by any darkness however intense.
