Intermediate The Hereafter Surah: Al-Waqiah (89)

If He Is Among the Foremost — Then Rest Fragrance and a Garden of Delight

فَرَوۡحٌ وَرَيۡحَانٌ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍ
— الواقعة الآية 89
Verse: "If he is among the foremost — then rest, fragrance, and a garden of delight." (56:88-89) — Three categories in Al-Waqiah: the foremost who are brought near, the people of the right, the people of the left. The reception of death is described for each. For the foremost: "rest" (rawh — relief from worldly toil) + "fragrance" (rayhaan — pleasant joy) + "garden of delight" (eternal residence). Three ascending gifts. Active question: which category do you want to be in? The answer is not in wishful thinking — but in daily choices. Lesson: the "foremost" are promised not just Paradise but "rawh" — ease at the moment of death, before Paradise. A good death is the first reward.
