By Time — Man Is in Loss — Four Conditions for Salvation in Three Verses

إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلۡحَقِّ
— العصر الآية 3
Verse: "By time — man is in loss — except those who believe, do righteous deeds, enjoin truth upon each other, and enjoin patience upon each other." (103:1-3) — Al-Shafi'i said: "If people reflected on this surah alone it would suffice them." Why sufficiency: the assumption of loss for all humanity — then four conditions for salvation: faith (heart), righteous deeds (limbs), enjoining truth (social impact), enjoining patience (continuity and steadfastness). "Enjoin" not "do" — the group is a condition: individual salvation does not suffice without social mutual exhortation. Lesson: the believing, righteous individual is not self-sufficient — they must participate in society with truth and patience.
