Surah: Al-Falaq (1)
Say: I Seek Refuge in the Lord of the Daybreak — Complete Protection from All Evil
قُلۡ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ ٱلۡفَلَقِ
— الفلق الآية 1
The complete surah: "Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak (1) from the evil of that which He created (2) and from the evil of darkness when it settles (3) and from the evil of the blowers in knots (4) and from the evil of an envier when he envies"
Reflection:
The surah draws a complete map of the types of evil a person needs refuge from — in this classification lies divine wisdom: evil is not a single mass but multiple types requiring knowledge and protection.
Types of evil in the surah:
The Prophet said: "Nothing like the two refuge surahs has been revealed." [Al-Nasai and Ahmad]. And he used to recite them at sleep and in the morning and evening adhkar.
Lesson: The two refuge surahs are a comprehensive remedy — whoever reads them sincerely and with reflection in the morning and evening walks through his day surrounded by comprehensive divine protection.
