Nafi' ibn Abd Al-Rahman (d. 169H) — Imam of Medina:
Learned from seventy Followers (Tabi'in). Known for exceptional piety — his face said to give off musk fragrance.
Qalon (d. 220H): Isa ibn Mina — Medina's leading reader, learned directly from Nafi'. His narration spread in Libya, Tunisia, and parts of Morocco.
Warsh (d. 197H): Uthman ibn Sa'id Al-Masri — traveled from Egypt to Medina to master Nafi's reading. His narration spread in Egypt, Morocco, Mauritania, and West Africa.
Key features of Warsh narration: Long madd (6 harakaat) in connected; tashil of hamza in various forms; imala kabra in certain words; madd al-badal (2, 4, or 6 harakaat).
