Ayyub and Patience — The Extreme Trial and the Most Beautiful Surrender

أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ ٱلضُّرُّ وَأَنتَ أَرۡحَمُ ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ
— الأنبياء 83
Verse: "And [mention] Ayyub, when he called to his Lord: 'Adversity has touched me, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful.'" (21:83)
The trial: Wealth and children gone, then health — eighteen years (or more) of hardship.
His prayer — the peak of adab with Allah:
He did not say "heal me" or explicitly complain — he said "adversity has touched me, and You are the Most Merciful." He declared his state and evoked the attribute of mercy. This is the adab of calamity: interceding through Allah's attributes, not commanding Him.
The response:
"We responded to him and removed his adversity, and gave him back his family and the like of them with them."
Lesson: Longest trial with most beautiful surrender = greatest gift. Allah does not prolong His servant's trial to destroy him — but to elevate him.
