The Verse of Tayammum — Aisha's Lost Necklace

فَلَمۡ تَجِدُواْ مَآءٗ فَتَيَمَّمُواْ صَعِيدٗا طَيِّبٗا
— المائدة الآية 6
Occasion of Revelation (Sahih — Agreed Upon):
Aisha narrated: "We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, and my necklace broke at Al-Bayda. The Prophet camped to search for it until morning, and people had no water." So Allah revealed the verse of Tayammum. Abu Bakr said to Aisha: "By Allah, I never knew you were so blessed!"

Significance:
  • A divine concession showing Islam's ease and compassion: tayammum is permitted when water is unavailable
  • Legislation comes from Allah, not human initiative
  • The blessing of Aisha: an entire ruling was granted to the nation because of her
