Surah: Qaf (16)
"We Created Man and Know What His Soul Whispers" — Response to Denying Resurrection
وَنَحۡنُ أَقۡرَبُ إِلَيۡهِ مِنۡ حَبۡلِ ٱلۡوَرِيدِ
— ق الآية 16
Verse: "We created man and We know what his soul whispers to him, and We are closer to him than his jugular vein." (50:16)
Occasion and context: Surah Qaf was revealed in response to those who denied resurrection in astonishment. Al-Tabari and Ibn Kathir noted: the surah's occasion was the polytheists' incredulity: "When we die and become dust, is that a far-fetched return?" The surah came with certainty: Allah created man and knows him better than himself — how then could He be unable to recreate him?
Reliability: Sound context — Al-Tabari and Ibn Kathir
Lesson: Allah who knows the soul's whisper before it is spoken is capable of recreating it. Complete knowledge of the origin of creation is proof of power to repeat it.
