Surah: At-Tawbah (40)
Do Not Grieve, Allah Is With Us — The Night of Hijra in the Cave
لَا تَحۡزَنۡ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَنَا
— التوبة الآية 40
Verse: "If you do not aid him, Allah has already aided him when those who disbelieved had driven him out as one of two, when they were in the cave — he said to his companion: Do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us." (At-Tawbah 40)
Context:
Certainty in Allah does not come from the number of supporters — it comes from knowing Allah. The Prophet (peace be upon him) in the most isolated of moments was more at peace than an entire army.
Context:
- The verse refers to the moment of the Prophetic Hijra when the Prophet (peace be upon him) left with Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq
- The two hid in the Cave of Thawr for three nights; when the polytheists approached tracking them, Abu Bakr said: "If one of them looks at his feet he will see us." — Sahih Al-Bukhari (3653)
- The Prophet replied: "What do you think of two when Allah is their third?" — Agreed Upon
- The broader context: Allah reminds the hesitant hypocrites: if you do not support him, Allah will support him as He supported him when he was alone with his companion in the cave
Certainty in Allah does not come from the number of supporters — it comes from knowing Allah. The Prophet (peace be upon him) in the most isolated of moments was more at peace than an entire army.
