Al-Madd Al-Munfasil — Readers' Differences from 2 to 6 Harakaat
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ
— البقرة الآية 104
Definition:
Al-madd al-munfasil: a madd where the madd letter is in one word and the hamza follows in a separate word — like "ya ayyuha", "fi anfusikum", "qalu amanna".
Readers' differences:
Wisdom behind the difference: Al-madd al-munfasil is an incidental madd arising from the madd letter meeting the hamza across two words — it may be lightened more than the connected madd, hence greater permissible variation among readers.
