People of the Trench — Martyrdom by Choice

قُتِلَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡأُخۡدُودِ
— البروج الآية 4
Verse: "Destroyed were the companions of the trench — the fire with plentiful fuel." (85:4-5)

The story: A tyrannical king dug a trench and lit a fire — forcing believers to choose: renounce your faith or enter the fire. The believers chose the fire.

The most painful scene:
A pregnant woman with her nursing infant paused before the fire — and the suckling infant said: "Be patient, mother — you are on the truth." (Muslim) And she entered.

A question many ask: Why didn't Allah save them?
Scholars say: Allah does not save every believer from death — sometimes He chooses martyrdom as a path to elevating their rank and establishing proof against the killer.

Lesson: True victory is not always physical salvation — but steadfastness on truth until the last moment.
