Surah: Al-Kahf (82)
Al-Khidr Rebuilds the Wall — The Third Reason from Moses Journey
وَكَانَ أَبُوهُمَا صَٰلِحًا فَأَرَادَ رَبُّكَ أَن يَبۡلُغَآ أَشُدَّهُمَا وَيَسۡتَخۡرِجَا كَنزَهُمَا رَحۡمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ
— الكهف الآية 82
Quranic context: The third event in Moses journey with Al-Khidr (peace be upon them) — rebuilding a wall in a stingy town that refused to host them without any payment.
Context:
Righteous parents continue to benefit their children beyond their own lifetimes — Allah protects the children of the righteous in ways they cannot see. The greatest thing a person does for future generations is to reform their own character.
Context:
- They came to a town seeking food but the people refused to host them — then Al-Khidr found a wall about to collapse and rebuilt it
- Moses said: "If you wished you could have taken for it a payment." (Al-Kahf 77)
- Al-Khidr explained: "And underneath it was a treasure for two orphan boys, and their father had been righteous, so your Lord intended that they reach maturity and extract their treasure as a mercy from your Lord." (Al-Kahf 82)
- Allah preserved the treasure of the orphans because of the righteousness of their father — righteous deeds extend their effect to descendants
Righteous parents continue to benefit their children beyond their own lifetimes — Allah protects the children of the righteous in ways they cannot see. The greatest thing a person does for future generations is to reform their own character.
