Verily in the Remembrance of Allah Hearts Find Rest — Peace Has One Address
أَلَا بِذِكۡرِ ٱللَّهِ تَطۡمَئِنُّ ٱلۡقُلُوبُ
— الرعد الآية 28
Verse: "Verily, in the remembrance of Allah hearts find rest." (13:28)
Reflection:
"Ala" is an emphatic particle of attention — as if Allah calls: "Notice! This is the answer you are searching for." "Tatma'inn" describes the settling of a heart after agitation.
Why dhikr specifically?
Al-Sadi: "Because the heart was created loving perfection, and everything in the universe is imperfect, incapable, and changing — so it cannot settle with anything imperfect. Only Allah points to absolute perfection, so His remembrance is the heart's only nourishment."
Restriction of peace:
Placing "through the remembrance of Allah" before "find rest" creates exclusivity — as if saying: "Only in dhikr do hearts find rest." Those seeking peace in wealth, fame, or pleasure have the wrong address.
Dhikr is not only tasbih:
Scholars say dhikr includes: Quran recitation, prayer, beneficial knowledge, and reflection on Allah's attributes — anything that connects your heart to Allah.
