Surah: Ash-Sharh (5)
For Indeed With Hardship Will Be Ease — The Quranic Law of Hope
فَإِنَّ مَعَ ٱلۡعُسۡرِ يُسۡرٗا
— الشرح الآية 5
Verse: "For indeed, with hardship will be ease. Indeed, with hardship will be ease." (94:5-6)
The great grammatical insight:
"Al-'usr" (hardship) comes with the definite article (al-) in both verses — so it is one hardship. But "yusr" (ease) is indefinite (without al-) both times — an indefinite noun when repeated implies multiplicity. So: one hardship is accompanied by TWO easements. The Prophet ﷺ said: "One hardship will never overcome two eases."
"Ma'a" (with):
Not "after hardship comes ease" — but "with hardship." This simultaneity means ease accompanies hardship at the same time — relief is coming while you are in the depths of difficulty, not after it ends.
Context: Revealed to the Prophet ﷺ in the most intense periods of opposition — not just a promise but a universal law he experienced himself.
Lesson: When you are in your greatest hardship — this is precisely when ease is forming and approaching. Never cut off hope in your tightest moments.
