Sufficient Stop (Waqf Kaafi) — Sign "ج" and its Ruling
الَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْغَيْبِ وَيُقِيمُونَ الصَّلَاةَ
— البقرة الآية 3
Definition:
Sufficient Stop (Waqf Kaafi): pausing where the meaning is grammatically complete but has a semantic connection to what follows (meaning-level connection only, not grammatical).
Rule:
Stopping is permissible and restarting is good. Sign in Mushaf:
"ج" (Jaiz = Permissible): Both stopping and connecting are allowed; stopping is preferable.
Quranic Example:
"Those who believe in the unseen and establish prayer" [Al-Baqarah: 3]
Stopping at "prayer" is sufficient — the meaning is complete, even though the next verse continues describing believers.
Note:
The Kaafi stop is most common in the middle of lengthy narratives where meanings intertwine. It differs from Taam in having some degree of semantic connection.
